Ferry services suspended in Visayas as southwest monsoon batters region

MANILA — Ferry operators in the Visayas suspended scheduled trips Thursday following deteriorating sea conditions brought by the habagat, or southwest monsoon, the Philippine Ports Authority announced.
As of noon, the PPA said all fast-craft services operated by Montenegro Shipping Lines Inc. departing from Masbate City were canceled due to high waves and strong winds across shipping routes in the region.
The weather phenomenon has disrupted inter-island travel in central Philippines, affecting residents and commuters relying on ferry services for transport and commerce. The PPA advised passengers to check with shipping operators for updates on service resumption.
Metorologists expect the southwest monsoon to persist through the weekend, potentially extending disruptions to maritime transport. The maritime authority continues to monitor weather conditions and will issue further advisories as conditions change.
