Fifteen areas record unhealthy air quality; Nilai shows worst readings

Air quality across Malaysia has deteriorated significantly, with latest measurements revealing widespread pollution concerns across the country. Fifteen areas have been classified as experiencing unhealthy air quality levels, representing a notable increase in affected zones, while Nilai district has emerged as the most critically impacted location.

The Air Pollutant Index (API) readings paint a concerning picture of environmental conditions nationwide. In addition to the fifteen unhealthy zones, fifty areas have recorded moderate API levels, indicating that the majority of monitored districts are experiencing sub-optimal air quality. Only three areas have managed to maintain good air quality standards, underscoring the extent of current pollution challenges.

The variations in API readings across different regions suggest localized pollution sources and atmospheric conditions are contributing to the disparity in air quality. Authorities typically attribute unhealthy air quality readings to factors including vehicular emissions, industrial activities, and transboundary haze during certain seasons.

Residents in affected areas, particularly those classified as unhealthy, have been advised to take precautionary measures including limiting outdoor activities and using appropriate protective equipment. The continuous monitoring of API levels remains essential for public health protection and environmental management across the nation.
