Fifteen Malaysian areas hit by unhealthy air quality levels

Air quality has deteriorated significantly across Malaysia, with the Department of Environment recording unhealthy readings at 15 monitoring stations nationwide. Nilai in Selangor leads the pollution rankings with an API of 163, classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups and the general population. Melaka's Bukit Rambai station registered 157, while Seremban in Negeri Sembilan recorded 155, both exceeding the threshold for healthy air quality. The readings reflect a pattern of elevated pollution concentrations across multiple states, with industrial areas and urban centres most notably affected. Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to limit outdoor activities and take preventive health measures, particularly among children, elderly persons, and those with respiratory conditions. The department continues to monitor air quality levels hourly and has advised the public to check official updates for any changes in pollution status.
