Figueroa stripped of WBA featherweight title after missing weight

Brandon Figueroa will not defend his WBA featherweight title in his upcoming contest against Tomoki Kameda after missing the required weight limit on Friday. The American fighter registered 127.4 pounds on the scales, exceeding the 126-pound maximum by 1.4 pounds, according to fight organisers.

As a result of the weight miss, Figueroa has been stripped of his WBA featherweight championship. The bout between Figueroa and Kameda is scheduled to proceed on Saturday, though it will no longer be contested for the title.

Weigh-in failures are a common occurrence in professional boxing, with fighters occasionally unable to make the contracted weight limit due to last-minute complications or difficulty cutting weight. Such infractions typically result in title forfeiture and financial penalties, though the scheduled fight can still take place at a catchweight agreed upon by both camps.

Kameda will have the opportunity to claim the vacant WBA featherweight title should he emerge victorious in Saturday's encounter with Figueroa.
