The floods and landslides struck mountainous regions along the international border, triggering widespread concern for the safety of foreign nationals caught in the disaster zone. Nepali officials have launched coordinated rescue efforts, though challenging terrain and continuing adverse weather conditions have hampered recovery operations.
Meanwhile, domestic economic concerns are mounting as the Philippine peso weakened further on Friday, deprecating to P62 against the US dollar. Market analysts attributed the currency slide to broader regional economic pressures and investor concerns about global economic conditions.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has reportedly been coordinating with Nepali authorities to obtain updated information on Filipino nationals affected by the border region disaster. Families of missing Filipinos have appealed for assistance in locating their loved ones.
