Fintech firm demonstrates offline payment tech to regional central banks

Swedish fintech company Crunchfish presented its offline payments platform to central bank representatives and policymakers from across South and Southeast Asia during a course conducted by the South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) organisation in Sri Lanka.

The demonstration introduced governing frameworks for offline transactions—payments that can be processed without continuous internet connectivity—a capability increasingly relevant for central banks seeking to enhance financial inclusion and system resilience across their territories.

SEACEN, which represents central banks from 11 member countries in the region, organises regular training programmes for monetary and financial policy officials. The inclusion of Crunchfish's technology presentation reflects growing interest among regional financial authorities in understanding emerging payment solutions and their potential applications.

Offline payment capabilities have gained attention globally as central banks explore digital currency systems and seek to ensure financial services reach underserved populations. The technology allows transactions to proceed in areas with limited or unreliable internet infrastructure, addressing connectivity challenges common across parts of South and Southeast Asia.

The presentation adds to ongoing discussions within regional central banking circles about digital financial innovation and the infrastructure needed to support modern payment ecosystems.
