FIR against Rahul Gandhi over Haldwani community remarks
Police in Uttarakhand have registered a case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following allegations that he made casteist remarks about a religious ritual conducted at a party event in Haldwani. The complaint was filed by a member of the Valmiki community, claiming Gandhi's statements at a Delhi press conference hurt community sentiments.

An FIR has been registered against Gandhi at the Haldwani police station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to promotion of enmity between groups and deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings. The case also invokes the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, according to law enforcement officials.
The complaint was filed by Amit Kumar, a Jawahar Nagar resident and member of the Shri Ram Sena Dharmarth Seva Nyas, who alleged he was present during a ritual and cleanliness drive at the venue of a Congress All-India Committee chief's programme. Kumar contended that remarks made by Gandhi at a Delhi press conference on August 29 were derogatory toward his community and mischaracterised those involved in the religious observance.
The case marks an escalation in tensions surrounding Gandhi's comments on the event, with complainants asserting that the Congress leader's public statements portrayed community members engaged in the ritual in a disparaging manner. Police said investigations into the matter are underway.
