FIR filed against IPS officer over sexual harassment allegations in Odisha

A female correctional officer in Odisha has lodged a formal complaint against Susant Kumar Nath, the state's Director General of Prisons, alleging sexual harassment and coercion. The complainant, a female jail superintendent, accused Nath of summoning her to private meetings and using intermediaries to pressure her into social engagements, including a dinner meeting.

According to the complaint, an associate of Nath allegedly sent inappropriate messages on his behalf to compel the officer to attend the meeting. The complainant has characterized the conduct as harassment and intimidation in the workplace.

The Odisha Police have registered a First Information Report based on the allegations. The matter has escalated to the parliamentary level, with a Rajya Sabha standing committee requesting that relevant state authorities present details of the investigation and findings.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about workplace harassment within government institutions. Authorities have been directed to provide a comprehensive account of the inquiry proceedings and any steps taken to ensure institutional safeguards against misconduct.
