The Crime and Criminal Branch (CCB) of Madurai police registered a first information report against Mannan, currently affiliated with the AIADMK, based on a complaint filed by TVK MLA Mustafa representing Madurai Central constituency. The complaint alleged an attempt to induce defection among party members, a practice colloquially referred to as horse-trading. Authorities invoked sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with provisions pertaining to criminal conspiracy in their case registration. Mannan was subsequently taken into custody for questioning by investigating officers regarding the allegations. The development comes as Tamil Nadu continues to grapple with concerns over political defections and potential inducements offered to elected representatives to switch party affiliations. The TMC legislator's complaint reflects heightened scrutiny of such practices across state politics.
