Airport authorities brought the blaze under control within hours of its detection, preventing any spread to adjacent sections of the structure. Airport Director Vikram Singh confirmed that the incident caused no significant damage and had no impact on airport operations.
Airport staff spotted the fire in an open area on the third floor during the afternoon. Emergency responders deployed two fire tenders to the scene, which successfully contained the flames before they could propagate further throughout the building.
Initial investigations by fire officials suggest the incident was triggered by a short circuit in decorative string lights installed for India's Independence Day celebrations. The old ATC building, no longer in active use, had been festooned with such decorations in observance of the national holiday.
Airport management stated that preliminary damage assessments indicated minimal impact from the fire. A comprehensive investigation into the exact cause remains underway.
