Fire Department to Roll Out EV Home Charging Safety Guidelines

The Fire and Rescue Department is developing formal guidelines to ensure safe installation and operation of electric vehicle charging systems in residential settings, according to department leadership. The initiative reflects growing concerns about fire safety as more Malaysian households transition to electric vehicles and set up charging facilities at home.

Department Director-General Nor Hisham Mohammad said the guidelines are a necessary response to the surge in EV adoption nationwide. "As more Malaysians purchase electric vehicles, we must establish clear safety protocols for home charging installations," he stated, emphasizing that the step is critical to mitigating risks associated with the technology.

The proposed safety guidelines are expected to address proper installation requirements, electrical system compatibility, fire prevention measures, and emergency response procedures.
