Fire and rescue personnel successfully freed a pigeon that had become ensnared in thread beneath the parapet of a bakery building, leaving the bird suspended several metres above ground with no means of escape.
The trapped pigeon's leg had become wound tightly in the thread, rendering it unable to fly or move to safety. Passers-by alerted authorities after discovering the bird's precarious situation.
Fire and rescue officer Mohammad Shafeeq responded to the emergency call and executed a swift rescue operation. Using specialized safety harnesses and rope equipment, Shafeeq descended from the parapet to reach the trapped bird. The officer carefully worked to free the pigeon's entangled leg before securing it safely.
Once liberated, the pigeon was brought down to ground level unharmed. The rescue highlighted the critical role emergency services play in responding to animal welfare incidents that require specialized skills and equipment to resolve safely.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about discarded materials in urban areas that pose risks to wildlife.
