First Lady Marcos, Education Chief Launch School Hydroponics Initiative

MANILA — First Lady Louise 'Liza' Araneta-Marcos and Education Secretary Sonny Angara jointly inaugurated a nationwide school-based hydroponics project on Thursday, launching the initiative at Las Piñas National High School and Parañaque National High School. The Philippine Reclamation Authority partnered in the rollout of the agricultural technology program.

The project operates under the Agri Tayo, Lab for All program, a Department of Education initiative designed to equip schools with hydroponic farming systems and related instruction. The program represents an effort to introduce sustainable agricultural practices and food production methods to students nationwide.

Hydroponics—a soil-less farming technique that uses nutrient-rich water solutions to grow crops—has gained traction as a viable agricultural method for urban and space-constrained areas. By introducing the technology in schools, officials aim to provide hands-on learning opportunities while addressing food security concerns and fostering interest in modern farming practices among the youth.

The initiative is expected to expand to additional schools across the country as the program develops, offering students practical experience in agricultural innovation and sustainable food production.
