Fishing industry calls for extended search for missing Andhra Pradesh fishermen

The East Coast Mechanised Fishing Boat Owners Association of India has made an urgent appeal to maritime authorities, contending that conventional short-term rescue procedures are insufficient to locate fishermen reported missing in waters off Andhra Pradesh. Association President Vasupalli Janakiram stressed the need for more comprehensive search-and-rescue operations to be sustained until the missing fishermen are found.

The industry body's intervention underscores growing concerns within India's fishing community about the adequacy of existing protocols when vessels and crew go missing at sea. According to Janakiram, standard rescue timeframes do not account for the challenges posed by extended maritime search operations in the region's coastal waters.

The association has called on the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy to deploy resources for expanded, sustained search efforts across wider operational areas.
