Jhansi police arrested five people on charges of public nuisance and obstruction following a street protest near the police lines that disrupted traffic movement and led to altercations with residents.
According to police accounts, the demonstrators halted vehicular traffic, engaged in disorderly conduct with passersby, and climbed onto vehicle bonnets. When officers intervened to clear the roadway, the protesters allegedly resisted police attempts to disperse the gathering, resulting in further confrontation.
Police said the demonstration stemmed from tensions between rival factions within the transgender community, reportedly centred around prominent community figures Babli Mausi and Anshika and their respective groups. The exact grievances prompting the protest remain unclear, though authorities characterised it as a dispute within the community.
The arrested individuals face charges related to disorderly conduct, traffic obstruction, and alleged assault on police personnel. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
