Five arrested in alleged PNP recruitment bribery scheme

MANILA — Two police officers and three civilians have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent recruitment scheme that demanded substantial bribes from Philippine National Police applicants, the agency announced Monday.

The arrests followed an investigation into complaints from a 29-year-old applicant who reported being solicited for P250,000 in exchange for guaranteed placement within the PNP, according to Col. Allen Rae Co, the police agency's public information officer.

The operation, detailed during a briefing at Camp Crame, represents the latest crackdown on corruption within the recruitment process. Police officials said the suspects allegedly exploited their positions or connections to convince applicants that payment would secure their entry into the force.

The PNP has intensified efforts to root out corruption in its ranks, with the agency emphasizing its commitment to maintaining institutional integrity and public trust. Investigators are conducting further examination of the case to determine the full scope of the scheme and identify any additional individuals involved.

Authorities did not immediately provide details on charges or the identities of those arrested pending the completion of formal investigations.
