JOHOR BAHRU — Authorities in Johor have arrested five suspects after uncovering what police say was a sophisticated scam operation run from an upscale residential property in Iskandar Puteri. The luxury home allegedly served as a call centre from which perpetrators targeted victims across the border in Singapore.
Police raided the property following complaints from multiple Singaporean residents who reported being solicited by callers using various fraudulent schemes. Investigators determined that the residence had been converted into an operational base for the illegal activity, with equipment and records seized during the operation.
The five individuals arrested are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations into the scope and scale of the fraud ring. Officers are working to identify additional victims and determine the total financial losses incurred through the scam.
The case highlights the ongoing problem of transnational fraud operations exploiting the proximity between Malaysian and Singaporean communities. Authorities in both jurisdictions have been stepping up efforts to combat organised scamming networks that exploit the cross-border nature of the region.
