Authorities have arrested five individuals suspected of operating a bribery scheme centred on foreign worker documentation and permits. The suspects comprise two officers from a government enforcement agency and three agents who facilitate foreign worker placements and services.
Investigations indicate that the group allegedly solicited and received bribes from foreign workers and employers seeking expedited processing of work permits, visa extensions, and related documentation. The illicit scheme is believed to have netted approximately RM1 million over the seven-year period under investigation.
The two enforcement officers are accused of leveraging their official positions to facilitate irregular processing of foreign worker applications in exchange for payments. The three agents allegedly acted as intermediaries, collecting money from foreign nationals and employers before passing portions to the officers involved.
The arrests mark a significant development in ongoing efforts to combat corruption within government agencies that oversee foreign worker management. Authorities continue their investigation to determine the full scope of the scheme and identify any additional individuals involved in the alleged bribery network.
