Authorities in Penang have detained five suspects believed to be involved in separate drug trafficking operations, police confirmed today. The arrests came after an ongoing investigation into illicit drug distribution activities on the island since July.
According to police, the five individuals were operating three distinct criminal syndicates with no apparent connection to one another. Each network was independently engaged in the supply and distribution of controlled substances across Penang.
The coordinated enforcement action resulted in the seizure of narcotics with an estimated street value of RM3.44 million. The breakdown and specific types of drugs recovered were not immediately disclosed by authorities.
Investigators are continuing their probe into the operations of the three syndicates as they work to dismantle the drug distribution networks. The suspects remain in custody as the investigation proceeds, police said.
