Five Malaysian states set to reopen schools on October 19

Educational institutions under Malaysia's Ministry of Education across five states will return to normal operations on October 19, the ministry announced on October 18. The reopening affects schools in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Pahang and Penang, which had previously suspended classes.

In a bid to maintain health and safety standards during the resumption, the Ministry of Education has recommended that all students and staff wear face masks on campus. While the measure is being encouraged rather than mandated, it reflects ongoing efforts to protect school communities during the academic year.

The announcement comes as part of broader education planning in the country, with the ministry coordinating timely resumptions of classes across different regions based on local circumstances. Parents and guardians have been advised to ensure their children are prepared for the October 19 return date.
