The central government has shortlisted five states to develop new university townships as part of its higher education expansion strategy. Tamil Nadu, Assam, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been identified for the initiative, which aims to create world-class academic infrastructure across different regions.
Under the proposed framework, selected states will be required to submit comprehensive proposals outlining their plans for establishing these townships. The submissions will follow the release of detailed guidelines that are expected to specify design standards, infrastructure requirements and funding mechanisms for the projects.
The university townships are intended to provide integrated academic environments equipped with modern facilities for students and faculty. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to decentralizing higher education and reducing regional disparities in access to quality university infrastructure.
Once guidelines are finalized and proposals are received, the government will evaluate each submission based on feasibility, resource allocation and implementation capacity. The selected states have been chosen based on geographic distribution and their capacity to undertake large-scale educational infrastructure development.
