Heavy rain that swept through Kuching on Tuesday afternoon triggered flash floods across several parts of the city, disrupting traffic and forcing temporary closures of affected areas.
The deluge inundated roads throughout Kuching, with water levels rising rapidly in low-lying zones. The basement parking area of Sarawak Plaza, a major shopping centre in the city, was among the hardest hit, leaving portions of the facility temporarily inaccessible.
The extent of damage to vehicles and goods stored in the flooded areas was not immediately clear. Authorities did not immediately provide statements on emergency response measures or estimated recovery timeframes.
The flash flooding is the latest weather-related incident to affect Sarawak during the monsoon season, when heavy rainfall becomes increasingly common across the state.
