Flash floods sweep through Johor Bahru following heavy downpour

JOHOR BAHRU – Heavy rain pounding the city on Monday triggered flash flooding in several neighbourhoods, disrupting traffic and forcing authorities to issue warnings to residents in affected zones.

The downpour, which intensified during the afternoon, caught many areas off guard as water levels rose rapidly in low-lying districts. Local authorities deployed emergency response teams to assist stranded residents and monitor water conditions throughout the city.

The flooding affected both residential streets and major thoroughfares, with some vehicles left partially submerged. Residents were advised to avoid affected areas and exercise caution on flooded roads.

Meteorological agencies had predicted heavy rainfall for the region, but the intensity and speed of accumulation exceeded initial forecasts. Drainage maintenance crews have been mobilised to clear blocked waterways and prevent further inundation.
