IPOH, Oct 19 — The number of flood victims seeking temporary shelter continued to climb on Friday, with 156 people from 50 families now housed across relief centres (PPS) in the state, according to authorities.
The increase underscores the ongoing impact of the flooding crisis affecting communities in Perak. Relief efforts have intensified as flood waters persist in several affected areas, necessitating continued coordination among emergency responders and local authorities.
In response to the escalating situation, the Royal Malaysian Navy has committed 100 personnel to support relief and evacuation operations on Pangkor Island. The naval deployment aims to enhance rescue capabilities and assist in the delivery of aid to stranded residents and those in vulnerable locations.
State authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and heed evacuation orders as weather conditions continue to impact the region. Relief centres remain operational, providing essential services including shelter, food, and medical assistance to displaced families.
