Flood-prone villages to be permanently relocated: Bagalkot minister

Minister Vijayanand Kashappanavar has committed to the permanent relocation of villages in Bagalkot district that face recurring flood risks, signalling the state government's intent to address long-standing vulnerabilities in flood-prone areas.
The minister has also requested the Chief Minister to undertake a visit to Bagalkot to assess the drought situation plaguing the district and review the grievances of affected residents. "The Chief Minister is likely to visit on September 4, 2026," Kashappanavar said, underscoring the administration's focus on tackling both flood and drought-related challenges.
The announcement reflects growing concerns over the dual threat posed by flooding and drought conditions in parts of Karnataka's northern region. Permanent relocation of vulnerable settlements is seen as a long-term strategy to mitigate disaster risks and protect residents from recurring natural calamities.
