Flood relief centres wind down across northern Malaysia

Most temporary flood relief centres (PPS) established across several northern states have ceased operations as conditions improve following recent flooding, authorities confirmed Thursday. The centres in Penang, Pahang and Kedah have substantially wound down, reflecting stabilising water levels and reduced demand for emergency accommodation.

Perak stands as an exception, maintaining two operational relief centres to continue assisting displaced residents still unable to return to their homes. State disaster management officials indicated the facilities would remain open pending further assessment of flood-affected areas and resident circumstances.

The closure of relief centres marks a transition phase in the disaster response cycle, with focus shifting toward damage assessment, rehabilitation and recovery efforts. Authorities urged remaining evacuees to register with local councils to access reconstruction assistance and relief aid programmes.

State emergency management agencies are coordinating with federal authorities to streamline recovery operations and support affected communities in returning to normalcy. Residents requiring assistance were advised to contact their local district disaster management committees for information on available support measures.
