Flooded Hanuman Temple in Prayagraj Reopens After 13-Day Closure

The Recumbent Hanuman Temple, a historic shrine located at the sacred Sangam confluence in Prayagraj, has resumed normal worship after remaining closed for 13 days due to flooding. The reopening came after the Ganges water level receded sufficiently to allow access to the temple premises.

Following the flood's retreat, temple authorities undertook comprehensive cleaning and restoration of the sanctuary. The grounds and interiors were thoroughly washed and sanitized to remove debris and silt left by the rising waters.

Head priest Balveer Giri performed elaborate rituals on the deity, including the ceremonial bathing and adorning of the Hanuman idol with flowers and garlands. The restoration complete, the temple gates were ceremonially opened to the public amid the sounds of traditional drums and loud chanting of devotional slogans by gathered worshippers.

The reopening marked the return of regular devotional activity at the venerated shrine, which draws pilgrims throughout the year seeking blessings at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
