Flooding displaces thousands of families across Nueva Ecija villages

JAEN, Nueva Ecija — Successive weather systems that swept across Luzon have left thousands of residents struggling in the aftermath of widespread flooding that struck this Nueva Ecija municipality. At least 2,445 families across 14 villages found themselves displaced by the deluge, according to municipal authorities who assessed the damage on Monday, Aug. 31.

Paperlyn Pablo, head of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, confirmed the scale of the disaster while mobilizing response efforts. The flooding has forced families from their homes and disrupted daily life across multiple barangays in Jaen.

Government agencies have begun coordinating relief distribution to affected communities. The Department of Social Welfare and Development has started providing relief packages to help families cope with the immediate aftermath of the flooding. Officials have not yet provided detailed damage assessments for homes, infrastructure, and agricultural areas impacted by the disaster.

The flooding underscores the vulnerability of communities across Central Luzon to heavy precipitation events during the rainy season. Provincial and municipal disaster response teams continue to monitor conditions and coordinate ongoing assistance for displaced residents as cleanup and recovery efforts commence.
