SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Persistent heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding across Cabangan town on Friday, forcing hundreds of residents to abandon their homes for safety. According to the Cabangan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), 245 families totaling 719 individuals sought shelter in evacuation centers as waters rose in low-lying residential areas.
Champ del Rosario, head of the MDRRMO, confirmed the displacement figures as nonstop rains inundated vulnerable neighborhoods throughout the day. The flooding affected multiple barangays in the coastal Zambales municipality, with residents moving to designated community centers and government facilities.
Local authorities did not immediately provide details on the extent of property damage or estimated duration of the emergency situation. The incident underscores ongoing vulnerability in low-lying communities across the region during the monsoon season, when intense rainfall frequently triggers flooding in areas with poor drainage infrastructure.
