SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Initial agricultural damage in the Zambales town of San Marcelino has reached P2.54 million as heavy rains and flooding from recent weather disturbances and the southwest monsoon ravaged farm areas.
Sta. Fe village emerged as one of the hardest-hit communities, with the destruction of newly planted rice crops contributing significantly to the total losses. The flooding swept through agricultural zones as the southwest monsoon brought sustained precipitation to the region.
The initial assessment reflects damages to crops still in early growth stages, which are particularly vulnerable to waterlogging and flash flooding. Local authorities continue to conduct comprehensive surveys of affected farmlands to determine the full extent of agricultural losses across San Marcelino.
The flooding adds to mounting concerns about crop security in the province as the monsoon season continues. Farmers in the region have been urged to assess their remaining crops and implement flood mitigation measures as weather conditions persist.
