Floods devastate north Andhra as Nagavali river swells to dangerous levels

The Nagavali river is set to swell to approximately 60,000 cusecs by Friday afternoon, prompting flood warnings across several districts in north Andhra Pradesh. The surge follows heavy rainfall in the region, overwhelming river systems and inundating agricultural areas across multiple districts.
The flooding has caused substantial damage to farming communities, with preliminary reports indicating the loss of around 10,000 acres of standing crops. The submerged farmland represents a significant economic blow to the region's agrarian economy, with many farmers facing complete crop failure.
In the tribal-majority district of Parvathipuram Manyam, rising waters have severed critical road connections, hampering relief and rescue operations. Authorities have struggled to reach isolated communities as floodwaters cut through major thoroughfares linking rural settlements to urban centers.
Health authorities have prioritized the safety of vulnerable populations, with 158 pregnant women from flood-affected villages transferred to nearby hospitals as a precautionary measure. District administration teams have been deployed to assist stranded residents and coordinate evacuation efforts from the most severely impacted areas.
