Florida sinks massive tanker vessel to create artificial reef ecosystem

Florida authorities have completed the controlled sinking of a 324-foot tanker vessel in designated offshore waters, transforming the decommissioned ship into an artificial reef environment. The deliberately submerged structure is designed to accelerate the natural reef-building process by providing a substrate for coral growth and marine colonization.

The tanker, previously used for commercial cargo transport, was selected for the reef conversion project after meeting strict environmental and structural criteria.
