MANILA – The Philippines is experiencing a notable surge in flu-like illnesses, with the Department of Health documenting a 31 percent increase in cases over a two-week period. The DOH recorded 15,042 cases of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) from October 1 to 14, compared with 11,517 cases reported from September 10 to 23, according to its latest agency report.
The uptick in respiratory illnesses comes as the country heads into the cooler months, when such illnesses typically become more prevalent. Health authorities monitor ILI cases nationwide to track disease trends and inform public health responses.
The DOH regularly releases epidemiological data through its agency reports to keep healthcare facilities and the public informed about emerging health concerns. The department did not immediately issue additional guidance or advisory measures in response to the increased caseload.
Filipinos experiencing symptoms consistent with flu-like illness, including fever, cough, and sore throat, are advised to seek appropriate medical attention and follow standard preventive measures such as hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
