Food regulator cracks down on Radisson Blu, e-commerce platforms over violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken action against multiple food business operators for violations of safety and labelling standards. The regulatory agency identified hygiene and operational deficiencies at a Radisson Blu property, prompting intervention to ensure compliance with food safety protocols.

In parallel, the FSSAI has also targeted e-commerce platforms for selling rice bran oil products bearing misleading health claims that do not align with established food standards. The authority found that vendors on these digital marketplaces were making unsubstantiated assertions about the product, violating consumer protection and labelling guidelines.

The regulator has suspended or cancelled operating licences for two food businesses found to be in breach of safety standards. These enforcement measures reflect the FSSAI's ongoing efforts to monitor the food supply chain across both hospitality establishments and online retail channels to protect consumer interests.

The action underscores heightened regulatory scrutiny of the e-commerce food sector in India, where oversight of third-party sellers remains a persistent challenge. The FSSAI has been increasingly active in addressing compliance gaps across organised retail and hospitality venues that serve the country's growing consumer base.
