Foreign Ministry confirms 36 Malaysians safe after Tibet floods

PUTRAJAYA — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday that all 36 Malaysians known to be in Tibet have confirmed their well-being following severe flash floods and associated landslides that struck the autonomous region. The swift confirmation came as the ministry intensified its outreach efforts to ensure comprehensive coverage of Malaysians across the broader border region. "We have successfully made contact with all reported Malaysians in the affected areas," a ministry spokesperson said, adding that the situation remained under active monitoring. The natural disaster struck Tibet without warning, prompting immediate welfare checks by Malaysian diplomatic missions in China. Officials said the confirmation process was conducted in coordination with local Chinese authorities and Malaysian representatives stationed in the country. The ministry said it would continue to expand its checks to cover Malaysian citizens in surrounding Chinese border provinces as a precautionary measure. Malaysians requiring assistance or wishing to report their status were urged to contact the nearest Malaysian mission or the ministry's emergency hotline.
