GEORGE TOWN, Oct 17 — The government has no legal basis to prohibit international visitors from boarding public buses in Malaysia, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said today, while emphasising that all passengers must comply with established guidelines.
Loke's statement came amid discussions about passenger conduct on public transport. He stressed that foreigners using Malaysia's bus services should follow the same regulations as local commuters, including ticketing requirements and behavioural standards.
The minister noted that public buses are open to all individuals travelling within the country, and preventing any group from accessing this essential service would be impractical and contrary to the nation's inclusive transport policies. However, he underscored the importance of maintaining order and safety on buses through consistent enforcement of passenger conduct rules.
Loke's clarification reflects the government's commitment to providing accessible public transport for residents and visitors alike, while maintaining service quality and passenger security across Malaysia's bus network.
