Former 1MDB chief uncertain why civil suit allegations shifted

The former chief executive of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) said he could not explain why certain allegations altered in the course of civil proceedings, telling the court his responsibility as a witness was limited to conveying truthful testimony.

Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi appeared in court as part of ongoing legal proceedings related to the state investment fund. When questioned about discrepancies between different versions of claims presented in the civil suit, he indicated he was not in a position to account for such changes.

"My role was simply to tell the truth and not to assign blame to any party," Shahrol stated, underscoring his approach to providing witness testimony. He maintained that his focus remained on presenting accurate information rather than engaging in attributions of responsibility.

The remarks come amid continued litigation surrounding 1MDB, the troubled development fund that became synonymous with one of the world's largest financial scandals.
