Former Badulla MP Chamara Sampath questioned over corruption allegations

Chamara Sampath Dassanayake appeared before the anti-corruption commission on October 9 to address allegations that he accepted a bribe totalling Rs. 8.9 million through his private secretary. The payment is alleged to have been facilitated to enable phosphate exports.

The former parliamentary representative's summons follows an investigation into the alleged transaction, marking the latest in a series of inquiries the commission has conducted into public officials.

The CIABOC has been investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged bribe and the role of Dassanayake's private secretary in facilitating the payment. The commission sought to establish the timeline and details of the transaction during questioning.

No charges have been formally filed against Dassanayake at this stage. The investigation remains ongoing as the commission continues to gather evidence and statements from relevant parties.
