Dharmendra Kashyap, who previously represented a constituency as a BJP MP, formally joined the Samajwadi Party on Wednesday, marking a significant political realignment in Uttar Pradesh politics. His defection adds to the ongoing shifts within the state's political landscape as various leaders reassess their political affiliations.
Upon joining the regional party, Kashyap levelled sharp criticism against the incumbent BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh. He contended that the law and order situation in the state has substantially deteriorated, raising concerns about public safety and governance efficiency.
Kashyap further alleged that members of backward and marginalised communities have been systematically denied access to justice under the current administration. These charges reflect broader concerns raised by opposition parties regarding the implementation of welfare schemes and equitable treatment of vulnerable sections of society in the state.
The Samajwadi Party, which has emerged as a principal opposition force in Uttar Pradesh, has been actively building its base ahead of forthcoming elections. Kashyap's entry into the party is expected to strengthen its organisational presence in the region and provide additional credibility to its narrative against the ruling dispensation.
