Mahinda Kahandagama was arrested by the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) near a restaurant in the Mirihana area late Thursday evening. Officers recovered crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as 'Ice', during the operation.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the CCIB suggest that Kahandagama had been engaged in drug trafficking activities for a considerable period. The discovery of the narcotic substance led to formal charges being filed against the suspect.
The arrest marks a significant development in law enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking in the Western Province. Police have indicated that further inquiries are underway to establish connections to other individuals involved in the narcotics trade.
Kahandagama's arrest comes as authorities intensify operations targeting drug-related offences across the capital. The CCIB continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case and has not ruled out additional charges or arrests.
