Former DAP Melaka Chief Withdraws from 'PH Plus' Electoral Pact

Former Democratic Action Party (DAP) Melaka chief Damian Yeo has announced his withdrawal from discussions surrounding a potential electoral alliance between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu, commonly referred to as the 'PH Plus' plan.

Yeo cited lingering resentment over the Sheraton Move of 2020, the political crisis that triggered the collapse of the PH government, as his primary reason for stepping back from the collaboration talks. The move saw Bersatu, then part of the ruling coalition, shift its allegiance, destabilizing the PH administration and leading to significant political upheaval.

"The wounds from that episode have not healed," Yeo indicated in his statement, suggesting that trust between the parties remains fractured. His decision reflects broader sentiment among some within PH who view any partnership with Bersatu with considerable skepticism, given the party's role in the 2020 political realignment.

The withdrawal adds to complexities surrounding efforts to forge a unified opposition or coalition strategy ahead of upcoming electoral contests in the region. Whether other party leaders will follow Yeo's stance or maintain openness toward cooperation with Bersatu remains uncertain.
