MANILA — Mangubat acknowledged his loss Saturday evening as partial and unofficial vote counts showed Barzaga ahead with 185,668 votes, based on ballots from 41.50 percent of polling precincts in the special congressional race.
The concession came as returns indicated a decisive margin favoring the incumbent Dasmariñas mayor in the contest for the 4th District congressional seat in Cavite province.
The special election drew significant attention in the predominantly urban district south of Manila, with Mangubat's exit from the race ending a competitive bid for the congressional position. Barzaga's commanding lead in the partial count suggested she would secure the seat.
The results reflected voting patterns across the district's municipalities and cities, with the incumbent demonstrating strong support among voters in the special congressional poll.
