Bob Chapek has levelled serious allegations against his predecessor at The Walt Disney Company in an upcoming memoir, claiming he was the victim of a sustained sabotage campaign. According to reports of the book, Chapek contends that Robert Iger, who selected him as CEO before stepping down, engaged in what he describes as a "relentless" effort to destabilise his tenure and force him out.
The allegations mark a dramatic escalation in the high-profile dispute between the two executives. Chapek took over as Disney's chief executive officer in February 2020, inheriting the company during the onset of the global pandemic. His leadership was marked by significant strategic decisions, including major investments in the Disney+ streaming platform and cost-cutting measures across the entertainment giant.
However, Chapek's time at the helm was turbulent. His handling of various corporate matters drew criticism from shareholders and entertainment industry observers. After less than three years in the position, he was replaced in November 2022, with Iger returning to the chief executive role.
The publication of Chapek's memoir adds another chapter to one of corporate America's most closely watched leadership transitions.
