Zaid Abdul Jalil appeared in court to enter his plea on charges stemming from his tenure as CEO of the Financial Industry Collective (FIC), contesting accusations that he misled the board regarding the Semarak Road project.
The charges allege that Zaid deceived board members in relation to two matters: the selection and appointment of the master developer for the project and the evaluation of the project itself. Both alleged offences occurred in 2014 during his leadership of the organisation.
The case centres on governance and transparency issues at the board level, with prosecutors claiming that the former executive failed to disclose material information or misrepresented details to board members. Zaid's legal team has indicated his intention to contest the allegations.
The matter is scheduled for further proceedings, with the court expected to set dates for hearing arguments. The case carries significant implications for corporate governance standards within Malaysia's financial sector.
