Shiranthi Rajapaksa appeared before the Colombo Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where she was formally remanded until 13 October. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested her at her residence on Poorwarama Road in Kirulapone after officers conducted a recorded statement at her home.
The arrest marks a significant development in ongoing investigations into matters related to the former First Family. CIABOC officials had visited the residence as part of their inquiry, which led to the subsequent arrest and court appearance.
The remand decision extends her custody for further questioning and investigation. The case comes amid broader scrutiny of activities during the Rajapaksa administration, which ended in 2015 following widespread public unrest.
