Former Fisherman Sentenced to 30 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

The High Court on Monday sentenced Adam Tan to 30 years imprisonment following his conviction on drug trafficking charges. Authorities recovered 172.7 kilogrammes of methamphetamine during investigations linked to the case. The former fisherman, whose girlfriend is a Vietnamese national, faced charges related to the large-scale distribution of the controlled substance. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered that Tan receive 12 strokes of the cane as part of his punishment. The severity of the sentence reflects the significant quantity of drugs involved and the serious nature of trafficking offences under Malaysian law. The case forms part of ongoing efforts by enforcement agencies to combat drug smuggling and distribution networks operating in the region.
