Former intelligence chief Salley cleared for return to CID custody

Major General (Retd.) Suresh Salley will be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department following his discharge from the National Hospital Colombo, the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court heard on Wednesday.

A 10-member medical committee from the state hospital informed Magistrate Pasan Amarasena that Salley was fit to leave hospital care. The Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris subsequently informed the court that the former intelligence chief would be transferred back into CID custody.

Salley, who previously headed the State Intelligence Service, has been at the centre of ongoing legal proceedings. The court's decision to authorize his return to police custody follows the medical clearance process, which involved a panel of specialist doctors reviewing his health status.

The matter continues as authorities pursue their investigation into the case. Further details regarding the timeline and conditions of his custody are expected to emerge as proceedings develop.
