Former Kerala DGP seeks court nod to travel overseas

Former Kerala Police chief Tomin Thachankary has moved the Kerala High Court seeking permission to travel abroad, challenging a condition of his current bail that restricts him from leaving India without prior judicial approval.

Justice A. Badharudeen heard Thachankary's petition on Monday and allowed the state government an opportunity to place its objections on record. The court has extended time for the state to file a detailed response before the next hearing, during which the judge will consider both the plea and the government's stand.

Thachankary's bail conditions currently require him to secure court permission before undertaking any international travel. The former top cop has argued for modification of this restriction, prompting the present legal challenge.

The state has not yet indicated whether it will oppose the modification or support it on certain conditions. The case will be heard again after the government files its formal objection.
