Former Kerala Police Chief Challenges Disproportionate Assets Conviction

Former Kerala Police Commissioner Tomin Thachankary has approached the Kerala High Court challenging his conviction in a disproportionate assets case, contending that the prosecution made significant computational errors in assessing his financial position. Thachankary's appeal challenges the methodology used by authorities in calculating his rental income, property income, and other financial sources, claiming these were systematically miscalculated during the investigation.

According to the plea filed before the court, the prosecution also failed to properly account for payments made by Thachankary's relatives and properties that were legitimately acquired by his wife. These omissions, the former police chief argues, have resulted in an inaccurate portrayal of his actual financial standing during the period under investigation.

The disproportionate assets case against Thachankary had focused on alleged accumulation of wealth beyond his known sources of income during his tenure in the police force. His legal team is now seeking to establish that the financial discrepancies cited by prosecutors were either miscomputed or attributable to legitimate sources and family transactions that were improperly overlooked.

The high court will examine the appeal and determine whether the calculations presented by the prosecution were sound and whether all legitimate sources of income and assets were duly considered in the original proceedings.
