Former LTTE member arrested upon deportation from India

The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has arrested a former LTTE operative who was deported to Sri Lanka after completing a 10-year prison sentence in India. The individual was apprehended by Indian security forces in 2015 and convicted on charges related to alleged attempts to reorganise the banned militant organisation.

According to TID sources, the suspect was handed over to Sri Lankan authorities upon completion of his Indian sentence. Investigations in India had focused on the individual's involvement in activities aimed at reviving the LTTE, which was militarily defeated in 2009 following a lengthy armed conflict.

The arrest marks another instance of cross-border cooperation between Indian and Sri Lankan security agencies in combating residual terrorist threats. The handling of former LTTE members remains a sensitive issue in both countries, with intelligence agencies maintaining close coordination on individuals suspected of harbouring separatist ambitions.

The TID has not released additional details regarding the suspect's identity or specific charges to be filed under Sri Lankan law. Authorities are expected to proceed with investigations to determine whether the individual poses an ongoing security threat.
